The Safety and Security Management Studies (SSMS) programme is looking for a senior lecturer who can contribute to the organization of educational activities and take on responsibilities as a team lead, including associated administrative tasks.

What does the role involve?
As a senior lecturer and team lead, you will combine educational leadership with subject-matter expertise in the field of safety and security. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing daily coordination and leadership within the SSMS programme;
  • Planning and ensuring the delivery of high-quality education;
  • Safeguarding the quality and coherence of the curriculum;
  • Potentially teaching an introductory course on safety and security;
  • Taking on a key administrative role within the team.

Working in this role provides an opportunity to support your colleagues’ professional growth while also advancing your own. You will be part of an ambitious team focused on becoming a self-directed, accountable professional unit. In close collaboration with your co-workers, you will contribute to the development of both the current and future curricula. Your skills in planning and organizing will be especially valuable as we prepare for the upcoming accreditation process.

The role of team lead involves a number of dynamic responsibilities, and we expect you to demonstrate clear and inspiring leadership. Both colleagues and students will look to you and your fellow team leaders to help bridge gaps, guide developments, and embed innovation in ongoing processes and projects. You will facilitate change, motivate others, and foster an environment where colleagues and students are encouraged to participate and share ideas. This approach enables us to continuously improve our curriculum—keeping it attractive, relevant, and responsive to student needs.

Because our learning environment is international, with staff and students from a wide range of cultural and professional backgrounds, we offer a dynamic and rewarding workplace that values diversity, collaboration, and continuous learning.

About your workplace
The Safety and Security Management Studies (SSMS) / Integrale Veiligheidskunde (IVK) programme is part of the Faculty of Public Administration, Law, and Safety (BRV) at The Hague University of Applied Sciences. The program includes a Dutch part-time and dual (‘work and study’) variant with about 600 students and a full-time English-taught variant with approximately 500 students from around the world. The IVK/SSMS team consists of about 50 lecturers, instructors, and career coaches, preparing students for safety-related professional practice in close collaboration with partners from an extensive network of professional organizations.

Around 255 staff members provide education to a growing population of over 4,000 students. The faculty offers programs in Public Administration/Government Management, Legal Studies (HBO-Rechten), Integrated Safety Science, and the English-taught variants: International Public Management, International and European Law, and Safety and Security Management Studies. These programs are housed in the main campus in The Hague.

What do we expect from you?

  • Strong educational and/or professional background in safety and security – this expertise is essential;

This is what you can expect from us
