At The Hague University of Applied Sciences, over 26,000 students study and 2,500 staff work. It is a nice mix of people from 150 different countries, all with different cultural and philosophical backgrounds, sexual preferences, gender identities and/or functional limitations. It is incredibly important to us that all our students and staff feel safe, welcome, valued and respected.
Creating a safe and inclusive learning and working environment is something we do proactively and together, in various ways. Examples include securing information, identifying alarming behaviour among students and staff, as well as safety measures when travelling internationally.
As an inclusive community, we value and pay extra attention to the social safety of students and staff. That is why a Social Safety and Inclusion programme has been established within THUAS which focuses specifically on improving these issues even further.
How socially safe you feel is personal and depends on various factors. It is therefore essential that we get the best possible picture of how our students and staff feel about safety. Through various anonymous, independent employee perception surveys, we monitor the safety perception of our community. This helps us take concrete steps towards a safe environment for all and aligns nicely with the steps we as THUAS is already taking in the area of social safety and our policy for an inclusive university of applied sciences. We are well aware that social safety and inclusion is a ‘work in progress’ and therefore regularly sharpen our plan of action.
When experiencing undesirable behaviour, students and staff can always contact one of our confidential advisers. They look objectively at each individual report.
Students and staff can go to various digital and physical hotlines when experiencing or wanting to report unsafe situations.
Every day, our Inclusion Office is committed to taking steps towards an inclusive learning and working environment. They do this together with all layers and corners of the organization.
